Air Raid Alert in Ukraine
A nationwide air raid alert was sounded in Ukraine early on Thursday. This means that people across the country were warned to seek safety because of a threat from missiles.
The Ukrainian air force said that the alert was needed “because of missile danger”. They did not say where exactly the missiles were coming from.
Reports are coming in of explosions in several cities, including Kharkiv and Lutsk. The mayors of these cities said that there had been shelling or explosions in civilian areas.
Recently, Russia has carried out many air strikes on Ukraine. In just a few days, they have launched over 1,500 attacks, hitting more than half the country’s regions.
The Ukrainian air force is warning people about rockets heading towards several regions of the country. This includes Rivne, Vinnytsia, and Balta.
Local media are also reporting explosions in Odesa, a key port city. The regional governor there has told residents to find somewhere safe to be.
Ukraine’s energy minister said that energy infrastructure had been targeted again by Russia’s attacks. This means that the country’s power supply may be affected.
