**Russia Attacks Ukraine’s Power Grid**
On November 28, Russia launched a large-scale missile and drone attack against Ukraine. The attacks targeted energy infrastructure across the country.
The Ukrainian Air Force announced a nationwide aerial alert after warning that seven Russian Tu-95 strategic bombers were headed towards Ukraine. Explosions were reported in several cities, including Kharkiv, Odesa, Lutsk, and Rivne.
Ukraine’s Energy Minister, Herman Halushchenko, said that Russia had dealt a “massive blow” to the country’s power grid. Emergency blackouts have been implemented in multiple regions to protect the energy system from further attacks.
**New Threats for Ukraine**
This is not the first time Russia has targeted Ukraine’s power grid. President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that over 800 guided aerial bombs, nearly 460 attack drones, and more than 20 missiles had been launched against Ukraine in just one week.
A new intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) called “Oreshnik” was also launched by Russia on November 21. The attack has triggered an emergency meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council and renewed calls for advanced air defense systems from Western partners.
