**Europe in “Actual War” with Russia, Says Former MI6 Head**
Former head of Britain’s spy agency MI6, Richard Dearlove, told Sky News that Europe is not just in a “pre-war” situation with Russia. He said it’s actually already at war.
Dearlove made these comments on November 27. He was responding to concerns from Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk about Russia’s full-scale war in Ukraine. Tusk had warned that the conflict risked escalating into a global crisis.
**Russia’s Hybrid War**
Dearlove said Russia is waging a “hybrid war” against Europe across multiple areas, including sabotage and aggressive moves. He added that intelligence chiefs from Europe, the US, and the UK have described Russia as “going feral”.
Russia has been linked to various acts of sabotage in Europe, such as cyberattacks, espionage, and election interference. Finland, which recently joined NATO, has complained about intensifying hybrid attacks from its border with Russia.
**Western Coalition at Risk**
As Russian aggression increases, the Western coalition may be facing a split. The upcoming inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump in Washington could mark a shift in support for Europe, NATO, and Ukraine.
Dearlove warned that Western nations are now in a very dangerous situation.
**Dialogue with Kremlin Unlikely**
While Dearlove said it would be preferable to engage in talks with the Kremlin, he doubted Russian President Vladimir Putin’s willingness to cooperate. He suggested that the West should try to have some sort of dialogue with Russia, but admitted that this might not be easy at present.
