Foreign Affairs Minister Maka Bochorishvili spoke with journalists in the parliament. She talked about Georgia‘s relations with the European Union.
Georgia’s relations with EU countries and institutions are very important, said Bochorishvili. She added that joining the EU is a long process. There will be difficult issues along the way, but these should not be used to harm the final goal of joining the EU.
Bochorishvili also spoke about resolutions adopted by the European Parliament regarding Georgia. She said it was unfortunate that some of these resolutions contained inaccurate information and demands that do not match partner relations.
The minister called a question from a journalist “speculative” when asked if Georgia would refuse to join the EU if offered membership today. Bochorishvili reminded that managing public expectations is what the EU has always suggested. She said neither Georgia nor the EU is ready for membership tomorrow, and a decision will be made when both are prepared.
Bochorishvili emphasized that her job is to make sure Georgia is prepared for membership by 2030. This is a promise made earlier, and Georgia’s goal is to be the best prepared among candidate countries.
