European Parliament Takes Stance on Georgian Elections
The European Parliament has adopted a resolution about Georgia. This means they have officially made their position clear on the recent elections in the country.
The leader of “Coalition for Change“, Nika Gvaramia, says that now the work is being done with the executive branch of the European Parliament to make sure everything is done correctly.
Gvaramia wrote about this on Facebook. She highlighted some of the main points from the document adopted by the European Parliament.
The resolution was supported by 444 members of the European Parliament (MEPs). 72 MEPs voted against it, and 82 abstained from voting.
What does the resolution say?
* The European Commission should review the visa-free status of Georgia.
* The European Parliament demands that certain individuals – Bidzina Ivanishvili, Irakli Kobakhidze, Kakha Kaladze, Shalva Papuashvili and Irakli Gharibashvili – be stripped of their rights.
* The results of the October 26 elections should not be recognized by the international community.
* New elections should be held within a year with a neutral administration.
Gvaramia says that now there is work being done to make sure everything from the resolution is carried out thoroughly.
