**More than 80,000 Russian Soldiers Killed in Ukraine**
A new investigation by BBC Russia and Mediazona has found that at least 80,973 Russian soldiers have been killed during the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. This number is as of November 29.
The report also shows that 3,830 more Russian soldiers’ names have been added to the list since mid-November. Most of these casualties were not part of the army before the war in 2022. They voluntarily signed contracts to fight in Ukraine and many died within the first two to four weeks of being sent to the front line.
**Volunteers Account for Many Deaths**
The investigation found that volunteers now make up 22% of all confirmed Russian losses, compared to just 14% last year. This means that over half of those killed were not part of the army before the war.
**Fewer Convicts at the Front**
The report also shows that the number of deaths among convicts who were sent to fight is decreasing. As of November 2023, they accounted for 26% of all losses. Now, it’s down to 18%.
**Regional Breakdown**
Most of the soldiers killed came from three regions: Bashkortostan, Tatarstan, and Sverdlovsk Oblast.
**Russian Army Losses**
As of November 29, the Russian army had lost around 738,660 soldiers, according to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Over the past day, there were 2,030 more casualties.
