**Ukraine‘s Old Plane is Back in Action**
A vintage Soviet-era plane has started flying again in Ukraine. This plane, called a Yakovlev Yak–52, was not flying for four months. It has now gone back to intercepting Russian surveillance drones over the city of Odesa.
The Yak-52 is an old propeller plane from the 1970s. It’s armed with shotguns and has been helping Ukraine fight against Russian drone attacks in Odesa. This unusual way of fighting drones brings back memories of World War I, when pilots used to shoot at enemy planes with hand-held guns.
Recently, a Ukrainian navy sailor reported that the Yak-52 used 1,000 liters of fuel during a five-hour mission and shot down at least one Russian drone called an Orlan. These drones usually find targets for missiles that are fired from far away.
The return of this old plane shows how Ukraine is still trying to come up with new ways to fight against Russian drones.
