Georgia’s President Speaks Out
The President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, has called on people living in Europe and America to speak out against Russian actions in her country.
In a message on social media, she urged those abroad to “wake up” and make their feelings known. She said it was no longer possible to ignore the situation and pretend everything is fine.
President Zurabishvili‘s appeal came after Russia launched what many see as “special operations” in Georgia, with some people being arrested or intimidated for speaking out against the government.
She told her compatriots living abroad that it was time to take a stand. She said they should express their views on these events, even if it meant standing alone.
The president also mentioned that her appeal does not apply to those who have already spoken out from outside Georgia and stood in solidarity with protesters at embassies.
