**Woman Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison for Aiding Russian Military**
A Ukrainian court has given a 43-year-old woman a 15-year prison sentence. She was found guilty of helping Russian military operations and trying to escape to Russia.
The woman, who used to live in Donetsk, moved to Kyiv after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine began. Later, she rented an apartment in Zhytomyr Oblast. The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) said that she made contact with Russia’s defense intelligence agency on social media. She offered to serve as an informant and used a banned social media platform to praise Russian militants.
**Woman Recruited by Russian Intelligence**
The woman was recruited by the GRU, which assigned her an operational alias. Her task was to gather information about Ukrainian military infrastructure, including repair bases for heavy weapons. She sent this information to her Russian handlers through encrypted messenger chats and email.
**Arrest and Conviction**
In August 2023, authorities arrested the woman while she was preparing to flee to Russia. The SBU found out that she had planned to be “evacuated” through third countries by the GRU. She was convicted under two articles of the Ukrainian Criminal Code: treason during martial law and justification of Russian aggression.
