**West Must Act, Says Latvian MEP**
Latvian Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Rihards Kols has written about the situation in Georgia on social media.
Kols said that police were using tear gas and water cannons to silence peaceful pro-European demonstrators. He noted that 80% of Georgians want their country to join the European Union, but the government is taking them in a different direction.
The ruling “Georgian Dream” party is being accused of leading Georgia towards a close alliance with Russia, rather than Europe. Kols said that this was not what most Georgians wanted. He called on the West to take action and support the Georgian people’s desire for a European future.
