**Russian Forces Close In On Slavyansk**
The city of Slavyansk in eastern Ukraine has stopped all public activities. This is because Russian forces are now just 25 kilometers away from the city limits.
The city’s military administration made this decision due to increased Russian attacks along the eastern front. These attacks have been making progress in recent months, putting pressure on Ukrainian defenses.
**Schools and Public Places Shut Down**
Slavyansk’s Military Administration Head, Vadim Lyakh, announced that all schools, cultural events, and sports activities will be stopped. This includes any activities that involve children.
Russian forces are trying to surround the city by moving in from two sides. They are advancing from the south near Chasiv Yar and Toretsk, and from the north along the Lyman-Kupiansk axis.
**Important City Under Threat**
Slavyansk is Ukraine’s largest government-controlled city in Donetsk Oblast. It was briefly taken over by Russian-backed forces in April 2014, but Ukrainian forces later regained control.
