**Georgian Diplomat Resigns Over EU Accession Decision**
David Solominia, the Georgian Ambassador to the Netherlands, has quit his job. In a letter, he said that for three decades, most of his work was about helping Georgia join the European Union (EU). He also stated that he condemns violence.
Solominia did not like Georgia’s decision to stop EU accession talks until 2028. He felt this went against Georgia’s best interests. Two other Georgian ambassadors had already quit over the same issue: Otar Berdzenishvili and Gotcha Javakhishvili.
More than 150 diplomats from inside and outside of Georgia have signed a statement saying that stopping EU talks was not what the country should be doing. They expressed their disagreement with the government’s decision.
Many people in Georgia are angry about this change. Protests are happening in Tbilisi, the capital city, and other parts of the country. This move has made some think that the democratic process in Georgia is getting worse.
Some say the reason for this change is because of a set of parliamentary elections that were not fair. The relationship between Georgia and its friends, like the EU, is also being affected by this decision.
