**Ukraine’s Airports Suffer Major Damage**
At least 15 of Ukraine’s 20 civilian airports have been damaged since Russia’s invasion in 2022. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said this on November 30.
**Traveling by Road or Rail is the Norm**
Since the war began, Ukraine has closed its airspace completely. Travelers from Ukraine use roads or trains to reach neighboring countries like Poland to catch flights. For those in eastern regions, the journey can take up to a day.
**Security Issues and Military Situation Matter**
Shmyhal said that Ukraine conducted a risk assessment and found it possible to partially open the airspace. However, security issues and the military situation remain top priorities for this decision.
**Russia Targets Ukrainian Infrastructure**
Russia has targeted Ukraine’s port infrastructure nearly 60 times over three months. This has damaged or destroyed close to 300 facilities and 22 civilian vessels.
