**Georgian Civil Servants Speak Out Against EU Withdrawal**
On December 1, a group of Georgian civil servants made a statement against the country’s decision to withdraw from EU accession negotiations. They “unequivocally denounced” this move and condemned the use of force against peaceful protesters.
The civil servants said they serve not any political group, but the national interests of Georgia. They believe that integrating with the West is crucial for the country’s future and have worked on implementing EU Association Agenda, visa liberalization, and approximation to the EU legislative space.
“We reject the statement made on November 28 and strongly condemn the crackdown on peaceful protesters,” they said. The civil servants confirmed their “unwavering commitment” to the will of the majority of Georgian citizens, as stated in Article 78 of the Constitution of Georgia.
The declaration is signed by over 200 civil servants from various state bodies, including the Ministry of Finance, the National Bank of Georgia, and the Judiciary. The statement is open for signature and can be signed by anyone employed in the public sector of Georgia.
This follows several statements by representatives of various ministries who have expressed their discontent with the country’s decision to make a U-turn on its foreign policy objectives.
