**Widespread Fraud in Georgia’s Elections**
A senior opposition figure in Georgia claims that the ruling party, Georgian Dream, stole as many as 300,000 votes in the country‘s October elections. This is a significant amount, equivalent to about 10% of all voters.
The opposition says this was not just a small mistake, but a large-scale manipulation of the vote. They are calling for new elections, saying that the current government is not legitimate.
**Electoral Fraud**
A seasoned analyst has looked at the numbers and agrees with the opposition’s claims. The analyst says that it would be almost impossible for Georgian Dream to have won by such a wide margin, as suggested by exit polls from independent companies like Edison Research and HarrisX.
The opposition party, led by United National Movement, is boycotting parliament because they do not recognize the government as legitimate. Even the European Parliament has called for new elections in Georgia.
**Systematic Manipulation**
The opposition says that Georgian Dream used sophisticated methods to manipulate the vote. For example, voter IDs were stolen or taken from people and then used to vote multiple times. This was especially common in areas where there were no independent observers to monitor the voting process.
In some cases, men even voted using women’s IDs, and one whistleblower reported being driven between polling stations and voting 20 times in just one day.
**Ballot Stuffing**
The opposition claims that Georgian Dream used two types of ballot stuffing to manipulate the vote. The first type was “obvious” stuffing, where votes were forced into opposition strongholds to cancel out their results. The second type was “soft” stuffing, where voters received multiple ballots and could vote multiple times.
