**North Korean Troops in Russia: A Growing International War**
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed that North Korean soldiers have been killed while fighting alongside Russian forces against Ukraine. This development highlights the growing international scope of the Russo-Ukrainian war.
According to Zelenskyy, around 12,000 North Korean soldiers are stationed in western Russia’s Kursk Oblast, near Ukraine’s border. However, he emphasized that Ukraine needs concrete evidence before revealing the exact number of casualties.
**Conflicting Reports and Drone Footage**
Earlier reports from anonymous Ukrainian military sources claimed that a Storm Shadow strike injured a North Korean general and killed several officers in Russia’s Kursk Oblast. Drone footage also showed the destruction of a North Korean missile system in Kharkiv Oblast, as well as combat clips allegedly targeting and killing North Korean infantry soldiers.
**Zelenskyy Urges NATO Membership**
In an interview with Kyodo News, Zelenskyy called for Ukraine’s membership in NATO, stating that international support is “not enough.” He also predicted that Russian President Vladimir Putin will continue to use North Korean troops as “cannon fodder” on the frontlines.
**US Support and Putin’s Response**
The developments come as US President Joe Biden authorized Ukraine to use American-made long-range missiles against targets in Russian territory. In response, Putin announced the deployment of a new intermediate-range missile capable of carrying nuclear warheads.
