Public Defender Speaks Out Against Brutality

The Public Defender of Georgia, Levan Ioselian, has spoken out against the actions of police during ongoing protests in the country. He says that it’s unacceptable when police overstep their powers and that brutality only increases when people are not accountable.

Ioselian said that treating , including journalists, with violence is unthinkable. He emphasized that such actions should have consequences and called for concrete responsibility from those who carry out these acts. When specific individuals are not punished for misdeeds, it leads further brutality, he noted.

The public defender also highlighted the example of minor child being present during a protest near . Ioselian stressed that children should be in safe environments, especially when there’s a risk of harm. He said that parents should remove their children from such situations and that he would contact them personally if he saw a child in danger.

Ioselian concluded that children have the to participate in peaceful demonstrations but not in areas where there’s a high risk of violence. He urged the special investigation service to investigate these incidents and ensure that they are followed by consequences.
