EU Should Take Action on Georgia Uprising, Says Belgian MEP.
Belgium’s former Prime Minister and a Member of the European Parliament (MEP), Guy Verhofstadt, has spoken out about the situation in Georgia. He thinks that the EU should take immediate action against those responsible for violence during the recent uprising.
Verhofstadt said that instead of just talking, Europe needs to act now. He suggested that sanctions be put on people involved in the ministry of interior and police who were responsible for the violence.
The Baltic countries have already taken similar action, he noted. The EU should follow their lead, Verhofstadt argued. It’s time for Europe to take action instead of just talking about it, he said.
