**G7 Ambassadors Meet with Ukrainian Journalists**
On December 2, ambassadors from the Group of Seven (G7) countries met with prominent Ukrainian journalists. This was the second meeting this year between G7 envoys and Ukrainian journalists.
The meeting focused on discussing the current state of media in Ukraine. The attendees included top journalists and editors from various outlets, such as Olga Rudenko from the Kyiv Independent, Vitalii Sych from NV, and Nataliia Lyhachova from Detector Media.
**Pressure on Journalists**
Some journalists who attended the meeting had experienced pressure from authorities in recent months. Yurii Nikolov, an investigative journalist, was threatened by unknown men at his home after investigating procurement wrongdoing in the Defense Ministry. Another journalist, Yevhenii Shulhat, faced military enlistment while investigating a high-ranking official’s family property.
**Scandals and Pressure on Media**
The meeting came amidst several scandals involving media outlets in Ukraine. In one case, private recordings of non-editorial staff members using drugs were leaked from an investigative outlet, Bihus.Info. The outlet later revealed that the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) had installed hidden cameras and leaked the videos to pressure them.
Despite public outcry and pledges to rectify the situation, media watchdogs and journalists continue to point out cases of attempted censorship, political interference, and other forms of pressure on the media community.
