**Russia Sends Private Mercenaries to Syria**
The Ukrainian military intelligence agency (HUR) claims that Russia is sending private mercenaries to Syria. According to HUR, Moscow has decided to send fighters from “private military companies” to help the Syrian government army. This group, possibly known as the Africa Corps, was established in 2023 and consists of soldiers, officers, and experienced mercenaries.
The Africa Corps reportedly emerged in 2023 and is made up of veterans who have served in various conflicts, including Syria, Libya, Burkina Faso, and Niger. HUR claims that Russia’s Africa Corps has been deployed in these countries and is now being sent to Syria.
However, the Kyiv Independent could not verify this information, and HUR did not provide evidence to support their claims. Russia’s leadership has denied any involvement in sending mercenaries to Syria.
**Syrian Rebels Take Control of Aleppo**
In a recent development, Syrian rebels swept into the northwestern city of Aleppo on November 30, forcing Russian-backed Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad’s army to pull back. HUR claims that the Syrian government army and Russian military units are suffering significant losses, fleeing their positions, and abandoning equipment.
**Ukraine Prepares for Fresh Attacks**
As Ukraine braces for fresh attacks in its third winter of war, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha announced plans to provide military aid to the country. The package will include Stinger missiles, ammunition for HIMARS, drones, and landmines.
**NATO Meeting Focuses on Ukraine’s Military Aid**
At a two-day ministerial meeting, NATO countries are expected to discuss providing Ukraine with enough military aid to enable it to enter any possible negotiations from a position of strength. Secretary General Mark Rutte said that the meeting will focus on ensuring Ukraine receives sufficient support.
