**UNESCO Adds Ukrainian Egg Decoration to Intangible Cultural Heritage List**
The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has added the traditional Ukrainian art of egg decoration to its list of intangible cultural heritage. This recognition was announced on December 3 by Ukraine’s Culture Ministry.
**Ukrainian Easter Eggs Get International Recognition**
The traditional Ukrainian art of decorating eggs, known as pysanky, is a colorful and intricate practice that dates back centuries. The eggs are decorated with complex patterns using a wax-resist method. This tradition is now recognized internationally as an important part of Ukrainian culture.
**Importance of Cultural Heritage in Ukraine**
The addition of pysanky to the UNESCO list comes at a time when Ukraine’s cultural heritage sites are under threat from Russian forces. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, over 1,000 cultural heritage sites have been destroyed, including those protected by UNESCO.
Culture Minister Mykola Tochytskyi said, “Living heritage unites us, gives us a sense of belonging, and embodies our identity.” He also emphasized that Ukraine will continue to protect its cultural heritage despite the challenges it faces.
**Additional Developments**
In related news, Russian forces have targeted energy infrastructure facilities in several Ukrainian regions as the country enters its third winter of war. The General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces reported that Ukrainian troops managed to fend off Russian forces attempting to establish a foothold on the western side of the Oskil River.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has expressed concern about the situation, stating that Washington would face a “dire threat” from China, Iran, and North Korea if Ukraine is forced to accept an unfavorable peace deal.
