Lawyer Claims Nika Gvaramia Was Physically Assaulted During Arrest
Nika Gvaramia, a leader of the “Coalition for Change”, was physically assaulted by law enforcement officers during his arrest. This is according to Dito Sadzaglishvili, Gvaramia’s lawyer.
Sadzaglishvili met with Gvaramia at the Marneuli temporary detention center and reported that Gvaramia’s health condition is satisfactory. However, he claimed that Gvaramia was hit in the abdomen during his arrest, which caused him to stop breathing for a few seconds.
Gvaramia was arrested for petty mischief and failure to comply with a police officer‘s request. These are administrative offenses, and he must be tried within 48 hours.
Sadzaglishvili believes that Gvaramia’s arrest is an attempt to silence him from speaking out against the Russian regime. He called on the Georgian people to continue protesting peacefully against the regime.
