Italy to Send Military Aid to Ukraine Again
Italy is preparing to send its 10th package of military aid to Ukraine. This will happen before the end of December, according to two unnamed sources.
The new support shows that Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni still backs Ukraine in its fight against Russia. Since February 2022, when Russia invaded Ukraine, Italy has sent significant military help, including two air defense systems made by France and Italy.
Details about the next package of aid are not public because they are kept secret.
Italy’s support comes at a difficult time for Ukraine. There is uncertainty about how much help Ukraine will get from the US after January 2025, when Donald Trump becomes president. NATO wants its member countries to give more military aid to Ukraine so it can negotiate with Russia.
NATO leader Mark Rutte said that giving more aid to Ukraine is important. He made this point during Italy’s time as leader of the G7 group. The G7 has strongly supported Ukraine, including promising a $50 billion loan using Russian money that was frozen. The G7 also repeatedly condemned Russia’s actions.
The US House recently passed a law with a lot of money for foreign aid, including help for Ukraine, Israel, and countries in the Indo-Pacific region. The bill will now go to the Senate, where it is expected to be approved.
