**US Government Warns of Escalating Violence in Georgia**
The government in control of Georgia has stopped pretending to be democratic. They are now arresting peaceful protesters and opposition members at home and at work. This is according to Joe Wilson, chairman of the US Helsinki Commission.
Wilson said that the US government must act quickly to punish those who are using violence against innocent people in Georgia. He warned that if action isn’t taken soon, the situation could get much worse.
**US Calls for Sanctions**
Joe Wilson called on the US State Department to impose penalties, or sanctions, on Georgian officials involved in the crackdown. This includes the Mayor of Tbilisi and other officials who are organizing the arrests. He also asked European countries to do the same.
