**Ukraine Businesses Turn to Alternatives for Power**
As Ukraine faces another winter with power cuts and freezing temperatures, businesses are looking beyond diesel generators to keep operations running. This was the main message from business leaders at the Energy Security Dialogue 2024 in Kyiv.
Nova Energy’s CEO, Andrii Lytvynenko, said his company is moving away from diesel generators and instead using battery-powered systems that provide uninterrupted electricity during outages. Around 400 branches of Nova Poshta already use these systems, and the company plans to equip a further 600 branches with them.
Lytvynenko noted that while diesel generators were once the simplest solution for power cuts, they came with noise and carbon emissions, as well as maintenance costs. Nova Energy is now investing in solar power and gas-piston plants that generate both electricity and heat.
A survey by the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine found that 87% of companies are ready for winter blackouts, but around 40% are also exploring alternative energy sources alongside diesel generators.
**Agro-Companies Also Embracing Energy Independence**
MHP, one of Europe’s largest agro-companies, is also focused on innovative energy technologies. The company employs over 30,000 workers and exports products to dozens of countries.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the Georgian authorities are pushing the country into dependence on Russia. US House Speaker Mike Johnson commented on this, saying he doesn’t expect any Ukraine funding from the US at present.
