US Supports Georgian People
The US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, has made a statement about the US’ support for Georgia. He said that the 32-year partnership between the two countries is strong and committed to democracy.
Blinken spoke out against the violence used by the party “Georgian Dream” against citizens, protesters, media, and opposition representatives. He called on them to stop using repressive tactics like arrest and physical violence to silence critics.
The US condemns these actions and will take action. This may include adding new sanctions. The country stands with the Georgian people and their desire for democracy.
Blinken said that those who undermine democratic processes or institutions in Georgia must be held accountable. He also mentioned that the US will continue to review its cooperation with Georgia, including previously announced plans.
