The President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, has spoken out against the actions of her government. She says that the country is being taken in a direction that no one has a mandate for.
According to the President, the government and prime minister of the ruling party have decided to change the course of the country. They want to stop Georgia’s march towards Europe and instead move closer to Russia.
**Elections Were Not Fair**
The President also talked about the recent elections. She said that they were not fair and that the results were protested by many people in the streets. Immigrants from Georgia living abroad even held demonstrations in 46 cities, showing their anger with the election results.
The President explained that she couldn’t speak out against election falsification before the elections took place because it would have been hard to prove. She said that now it’s clear that there were widespread violations and that this is a serious issue for the country.
**Constitution Is Not Being Followed**
The President mentioned that the Constitution of Georgia says that all institutions should work together to move the country towards Europe. However, she claims that the government and prime minister are not following this rule.
Instead, they seem to be acting in favor of Russia’s influence over Georgia. The leaders of Russia have already congratulated the Prime Minister on his decision, which is a worrying sign for the President.
**Unifying Society**
The President has also spoken about unifying society. She says that she’s taking steps to bring people together, as it’s her role according to the Constitution. However, she believes that this is difficult when there are no fair elections and when people feel like their votes have been taken away.
