**Germany Supports Georgian People’s Fight for Democracy**
The people of Georgia are standing up for their right to democracy and European values. German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock spoke out in support of them at a meeting of foreign ministers in Malta.
Baerbock said she welcomes the bravery of the Georgian people. She also called on the government to follow the European path, which they seem to be moving away from with their words and actions.
**Government Accused of Trying to Intimidate Protesters**
The German Deputy Foreign Minister, Anna Lührmann, accused the government of using intimidation and force to try and stop the daily protests. These protests are a result of the government’s decision to move away from its path towards joining the European Union and becoming more authoritarian.
Lührmann said that the recent arrests of opposition leaders based on false conspiracy theories are another example of how the government is violating European norms and values. One of those arrested was Nika Gvaramia, leader of “Coalition for Change”.
