Meeting with Rector Criticized by Students and Alumni
Giorgi Shalutashvili, the rector of Shota Rustaveli State University of Theater and Cinema, met with former and current students. However, his meeting was not well received.
The reason for this reaction is that Shalutashvili’s evaluations were seen as unsatisfactory by the actors and directors who attended. They asked him to express a clear position on the violence and arrests during recent protests, including those involving representatives of the cultural sphere.
Shalutashvili promised to take action once he has all the facts. He stated that he would use measures such as bail or pardon if necessary. However, his response was criticized by many.
One of the criticisms came from Paata Tsikolia, who directed a harsh question at Shalutashvili. He asked how a ballerina could be considered violent, and questioned the video used to arrest an actor named Andro Chichinadze.
