**German Chancellor Hopes for Collaboration with Trump on Ukraine**
Germany‘s Chancellor Olaf Scholz is optimistic about working with the new US President Donald Trump to end the war in Ukraine. Despite Trump being critical of US military aid to Ukraine during his campaign, Scholz believes they can find a common strategy.
In an interview, Scholz said he has already spoken at length with Trump and is keeping in touch with his advisors on security policy. He expressed confidence that they can develop a plan to end the war.
**No Decisions Without Ukrainian Input**
Scholz also stressed that no decisions about Ukraine should be made without input from Ukrainians themselves. This means that any deal reached would have to take into account what is best for Ukraine, not just imposed on them by other countries.
Some analysts are worried that Trump’s approach might involve pressuring Ukraine to give up territory in exchange for peace, which could undermine Ukrainian sovereignty and lead to more instability.
**Germany Supports Ukraine**
Scholz reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to supporting Ukraine. He said they would provide the country with Patriot launch systems, Gepard anti-aircraft tanks, and an IRIS-T system. This is despite Scholz previously saying that they wouldn’t give Ukraine long-range Taurus missiles.
**Unlocking Frozen Russian Assets**
Germany also plans to help unlock $50 billion in frozen Russian assets for Ukraine’s reconstruction. However, Ukrainian officials say this has not yet happened.
