**Government in Georgia Accused of Violating Human Rights**
The leader of the “Gakharia for Georgia” party, Giorgi Gakharia, has spoken out against the government’s handling of protests. He said that police are not doing enough to protect citizens from violence.
Every night, people are being kidnapped by unofficial groups and then beaten up after they’re arrested. The police seem to be doing nothing about it. When people are attacked on the street and the police turn their backs, it’s a shameful thing to see, Gakharia said.
He believes that an illegal order has been given to the authorities – “don‘t kill, but do whatever you want”. This is the way they’re operating. The international community will soon take action to protect the rights of ordinary citizens in Georgia, and their children, Gakharia said.
**Call for New Elections**
Gakharia thinks that the solution is simple: the people who have been illegally arrested should be released immediately, and new elections should be held. This is the only way to move forward, he believes.
