Mamuka Mdinaradze, the executive secretary of “Georgian Dream”, wants to make wearing masks on streets and in rallies illegal. He thinks this will help solve problems caused by people hiding their identities.
According to Mdinaradze, if someone attacks a journalist or a police officer while wearing a mask, it’s hard for investigators to find them. He said that when TV journalists were attacked recently, the police had trouble identifying the perpetrators.
Mdinaradze thinks his proposal will get support from lawmakers. He asked his opponents why strangers should be allowed to walk around with masks on. He believes that if people are wearing masks, they might be up to no good and hiding their identities.
The recent attack on TV Pirveli journalists Maka Chikhladze and a cameraman was mentioned as an example of the problems caused by masked individuals. Mdinaradze thinks that making it illegal to wear masks in public will help prevent such incidents.
