**Trump and Zelensky Want to End Ukraine War**
US President-elect Donald Trump wants to make a deal with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to end the war in Ukraine. He wrote on his Truth Social platform that he had met with Zelensky in Paris and they both wanted to stop the fighting.
**Ceasefire Needed**
Trump said an immediate ceasefire was needed, and negotiations should start right away. He also warned that too many lives were being wasted, and if the war continued, it could get much worse.
**Zelensky Agrees**
Zelensky shared Trump’s sentiments, saying “peace through strength is possible.” He added that he wanted the war to end as soon as possible and in a just way.
**Trump’s Previous Claims**
This comes after Trump promised during his presidential campaign that he could resolve the conflict within 24 hours if he were in charge. He also claimed that Russia was not interested in protecting Syrian President Bashar al–Assad because of its heavy losses in Ukraine.
**Syria Situation**
In Syria, rebel forces are advancing on Damascus, and it’s possible that Assad’s regime may fall soon. US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said that Russia cannot provide large-scale military support to Assad while being bogged down in a war with Ukraine.
**Ukraine Support**
Zelensky met with the Georgian President during his visit to Paris and expressed support for the people of Georgia, who are fighting against Russian influence.
**Russian Losses**
Ukrainian forces have been hitting Russian troops hard, causing over 1,460 casualties in just one day. Russia is also suffering heavy losses in Ukraine, which may be affecting its ability to support Assad in Syria.
**New Aid Package**
The US will provide a new aid package to Ukraine through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI). This comes as Syrian rebels continue their advance on Damascus.
