**Ukrainian Writer Posthumously Honored with Prestigious Award**
A Ukrainian writer who was killed in a Russian missile strike has been honored with a prestigious award. Victoria Amelina, a young and popular writer from Ukraine, received the Prix Voltaire Special Award at an international conference in Mexico.
Amelina was killed in 2023 when Russian forces fired missiles at the city of Kramatorsk. She had been documenting war crimes and writing about her experiences during the conflict. Her work has been translated into many languages, including English, Polish, and German.
The Prix Voltaire Special Award is given to honor people who have defended freedom of expression and whose voice was silenced. Amelina’s work stood out for its courage and honesty in the face of war and oppression.
**Accepting the Award**
Oleksandra Matviichuk, a Ukrainian human rights activist, accepted the award on Amelina’s behalf. She praised Amelina’s bravery and dedication to her craft, saying that she had built bridges between Ukraine and the world through her writing.
“This is very palpable at this international congress of authors and publishers,” Matviichuk said. “I am once again amazed at how much she did – traveled and spoke, volunteered, documented war crimes, wrote a book.”
