**Georgian Parliament Speaker Speaks Out on Protests**
The main reason for the current protests in Georgia is the country‘s recent election defeat, according to Shalva Papuashvili, the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament. He said that a part of the voters supported opposition parties, but the “Georgian Dream” party won a convincing victory.
**Papuashvili: Return to Democracy**
Papuashvili emphasized that under the “Georgian Dream” government, Georgia has made significant progress towards European integration. He called for an end to violent protests and a return to democratic processes. He said that the police have been working hard to maintain order, but unfortunately, clashes with violent groups have resulted in many injuries.
**Appeal to Protesters**
Papuashvili appealed directly to protesters who are expressing their frustration over the election results. He acknowledged that they may feel frustrated, but called for a peaceful and lawful expression of dissent. He reminded everyone that elections are the only way to determine the political outcome and that the process should be conducted within the bounds of democratic norms.
