Former Georgian Defense Minister Wins Dispute Against BBC
David Kezerashvili, a former minister of defense in Georgia, has won a court case against the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). The BBC had published investigative reports and articles accusing Kezerashvili of being involved in illicit financial activities. However, the reports have now been removed from the BBC’s platforms.
According to Kezerashvili, the BBC had accused him of founding numerous call centers that were operating from a building in Tbilisi. The documentary suggested that these call centers were linked to large-scale financial fraud. Kezerashvili denied the charges and claimed they were “false and politically motivated”.
Kezerashvili also accused the Georgian government of launching a campaign against him, trying to mislead both domestic and international audiences. He cited court decisions from Strasbourg, France, and Great Britain that had found similar campaigns by the Georgian government to be severe violations of human rights or political persecution.
The Russian FSB recently announced that they had shut down an international call center network that was allegedly operating in Kezerashvili’s interests. The network was accused of committing mass fraud against citizens in multiple countries, including EU member states and Japan.
Kezerashvili has expressed gratitude to his legal team for helping him win the case against the BBC. He also claimed that the BBC will reimburse all his legal expenses related to the lawsuit.
