Ukraine to Get Advanced Artillery Systems Sooner Than Expected
The Danish Ministry of Defense has announced that advanced artillery systems, called CAESAR, will be delivered to Ukraine in 2025. This is a year earlier than planned.
Ukraine had asked its allies for help with military support, including the CAESAR self-propelled howitzers. In January 2024, Ukraine launched a coalition to improve its artillery capabilities and requested partners to co–finance the purchase of 72 CAESAR howitzers.
The CAESAR system is designed to be versatile and can be used in different combat situations. It can fire ammunition up to 42 kilometers away and has a high rate of fire. Each unit can carry 18 shells and shoot six times per minute.
Denmark’s decision to deliver the CAESAR systems ahead of schedule might inspire other countries to do the same, said Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen. This could lead to more international support for Ukraine.
