**Russia Accused of War Crimes in Ukraine**
Russian soldiers have killed at least 109 Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs) this year, according to the Ukrainian Human Rights Commissioner Dmytro Lubinets. This is a serious violation of international law.
Videos showing Russian forces executing Ukrainian POWs have been shared on social media. These videos were taken by both Ukrainian drones and Russian soldiers themselves.
“The Russians shot 109 Ukrainian prisoners of war this year,” said Mr. Lubinets. In total, there have been 177 confirmed cases of Ukrainian defenders being executed by Russian occupiers since the start of Russia’s war against Ukraine.

The killing of POWs is a war crime under international law. The Geneva Conventions, which govern how individuals are treated during armed conflict, prohibit the murder or ill-treatment of POWs. These actions can lead to criminal liability in both national and international courts.
There have been several recent incidents where Russian forces have executed Ukrainian soldiers. In November, five Ukrainian soldiers were killed after being captured and taken shelter in a private house near the village of Petrovka. Another two soldiers were forced to undress and then executed by Russian forces near the village of Novodmytrivka.
