French President Emmanuel Macron recently spoke with Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder of Georgia’s ruling party. This is not surprising to some people.
They say that if Macron thought the government in Georgia was unfair, he wouldn’t have made this long call. The speaker thinks it shows that Macron and his friends see Georgia as a strong country that won’t be bossed around.
Macron asked Ivanishvili to make sure everyone has a say in the country’s decisions. He also said that these talks should respect what Georgians want, which is to be part of Europe and live in a democracy.
According to Macron’s team, he told Ivanishvili to release anyone who’s being held unfairly. He also wants people to be free to express their opinions and gather peacefully.
Some people see this as a sign that the West will soon start working with Georgia more closely. They think this call was made before an important meeting of European leaders.
The man Macron spoke to, Guram Macharashvili, says this is proof that the government in Georgia is strong and doesn’t care what others say. He thinks people who are worried about January 20 (an upcoming date) are scared because they don‘t want to face the truth.
