**Petition from Abkhazia Residents Asks Supreme Council to Boycott Elections**
A group of residents from Abkhazia have signed a petition asking the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia not to participate in presidential elections. The reason is that these elections are seen as illegitimate by many countries, including those in Europe.
**Background: Controversial Election Results**
The petitioners point out that the recent parliamentary election results were disputed due to “fundamental violations”. As a result, no democratic state or international organization has recognized them. The United States also suspended its strategic partnership agreement with Georgia, which guarantees the country‘s territorial integrity and non-recognition of occupation.
**Demanding Moral Stance**
The displaced community from Abkhazia urges members of the Supreme Council to stand on the right side of history and not participate in what they call a “farce” set up by the de facto government. They argue that taking part in these elections will further discredit already discredited institutions in the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia.
**Petition’s Message**
The petition says: “Don’t be mouthpieces for the occupier!” It emphasizes that participating in illegitimate elections as a commander-in-chief would have serious consequences for the region. The petitioners want the Supreme Council to make a moral stand and separate itself from these illegal processes.
