**Russia Attacks Ukraine’s Infrastructure**
On December 13, Russian forces launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure. The attack included at least 93 ballistic and cruise missiles and over 200 drones.
The European Union’s Ambassador to Ukraine, Katarina Mathernova, said the attack was one of the largest strikes on Ukraine’s energy grid. Ukrainian defenses shot down most of the incoming attacks, intercepting 81 out of 94 missiles and 80 out of 193 drones.
**Commissioner Takes Shelter**
Newly appointed European defense commissioner Andrius Kubilius took shelter in Kyiv during the attack. EU Ambassador Mathernova shared a photo on social media showing Kubilius in a shelter. This was one of his first experiences with Russian aggression as the new commissioner.
**Missiles Shot Down by Ukraine’s F-16 Jets**
Some of the missiles were shot down by Ukraine’s F-16 fighter jets. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky noted that some of the missiles used in the attack were reportedly supplied by North Korea.
