Russia May Launch Another Missile at Ukraine This Weekend
According to the Financial Times, Russia is thinking about launching an Oreshnik missile at Ukraine this weekend. The United States knows about this plan through a secret source.
On November 21, Russia already fired an Oreshnik missile without a nuclear warhead at the city of Dnipro in Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin said this was because Ukraine had used US and British long-range missiles to attack Russian territory.
The source told the Financial Times that Russia might launch another Oreshnik missile soon, possibly this weekend.
What is an Oreshnik missile? Some experts think it’s not a brand new development by Russia. Instead, they believe it’s just a modified version of an old missile called RS-26 or Rubezh. This missile was first made in 2011 and tested successfully in 2012.
It’s like taking apart an old car, fixing some parts, and painting it with a new color. That’s what might have happened to the Oreshnik missile, according to Fabian Hoffmann, a defense expert at the University of Oslo.
