Unidentified Drones Spotted Over German Air Base and Industrial Sites
Multiple drones have been seen flying over the Ramstein Air Base in Germany. This has raised concerns about security, especially since the base is important for American forces in Europe.
The drones were spotted on December 3-4. They flew over the US military base, as well as facilities belonging to defense contractor Rheinmetall and chemical industry giant BASF. The US Army said that the drones did not cause any problems at the air base.
Despite efforts to find out who was operating the drones, authorities have been unable to determine their origin or purpose. This has led the Flensburg prosecutor’s office to launch an investigation into “intelligence activities with subversive intent.”
Similar incidents were reported in the UK last month, where unidentified drones were seen flying over Royal Air Force bases. A drone was also found monitoring a British aircraft carrier in Hamburg.
The Ramstein Air Base is strategically important for NATO. In June, the Alliance’s Secretary General said that Russia had been involved in hostile actions, including sabotage and cyberattacks.
No one has taken responsibility for the recent drone sightings in Germany.
