**Ukraine Extends Ban on Russian Goods**
The Ukrainian government has decided to keep a ban on importing goods from Russia in place until the end of 2025. This decision was made official through a government resolution on December 13, 2024.
**Why is this important?**
This move shows that Ukraine remains committed to keeping its economy separate from Russia’s while it continues to be under attack by Russian forces. The ban has been in place since 2015 and has been renewed every year.
**What does the ban mean?**
The ban will automatically end on January 1, 2026, unless Russia stops taking “discriminatory and/or unfriendly actions” against Ukraine. This means that if Russia changes its behavior towards Ukraine, the ban could be lifted earlier.
**International context**
Other European countries have also taken action against Russia. The European Union has put in place several rounds of sanctions, including trade restrictions on energy, finance, and dual-use goods. These sanctions aim to pressure Russia into stopping its aggression in Ukraine.
