**Georgia’s New President Elected**
A 300-member commission has chosen Mikheil Kavelashvili as the new president of Georgia. The election took place in Parliament, where members cast their votes openly.
Kavelashvili got 224 votes in his favor. However, one member, Ada Marshania, did not support him. The opposition was also absent from the process.
The Chairman of the Central Election Commission presented the results to the electoral commission gathered in the plenary hall. Kavelashvili himself was present during the announcement.
**Procedure Completed**
According to the Chairman of the Central Election Commission, 225 members participated in the vote, with one ballot being invalid. The procedure took place in Parliament’s main hall and followed a strict order: Georgian Parliament members voted first, followed by other state body representatives, in alphabetical order.
The result was met with applause from the commission members. The Chairman of the CEC handed over the final protocol to the Speaker of Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, marking the end of the election process.
**Only One Candidate**
Mikheil Kavelashvili was the only candidate for the presidency during this election.
