Norwegian Defense Minister Announces Continued Air Defense Support for Ukraine
Norway’s Defense Minister, Bjørn Arild Gram, recently announced that the country will continue to support Ukraine’s air defense capabilities. This decision was made on December 13.
Norway had already been supporting Ukraine since autumn 2023 by providing aircraft, instructors, and technical help to train Ukrainian pilots. Now, Norway plans to move its F–16 pilot training program from Denmark to Portugal in 2025. This will keep the critical training initiative going without any interruptions.
The fight that Ukraine is facing is considered very important for both Norway and Europe’s security, according to Minister Gram. To support this effort, Kongsberg Aviation Maintenance Services (KAMS) has agreed to send people to help train Ukrainian pilots in technical skills.
This decision is part of a bigger international effort to support Ukraine. Just recently, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, announced that Denmark had sent another batch of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, which will improve its air defense capabilities.
Leaders from several countries, including Norway and others, made a joint declaration on November 27 reaffirming their commitment to supporting Ukraine against Russia’s ongoing invasion.
