**Russia Loses Again: Dutch Supreme Court Upholds $5 Billion Compensation for Naftogaz**
The Dutch Supreme Court has made a decision that is not good news for Russia. The court has confirmed previous decisions that say Russia must pay Naftogaz Group around $5 billion in compensation.
This money is for assets that were taken from Naftogaz without permission when Crimea was annexed by Russia. A tribunal at the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague had already ruled that Russia had to pay this money, and now the Dutch Supreme Court has agreed with that decision.
**Naftogaz is Happy**
Naftogaz Group’s acting chairman, Roman Chumak, said he was pleased with the Supreme Court’s decision. He thanked his lawyers for their work and said that Naftogaz was on its way to getting justice.
The arbitration tribunal had already decided in 2019 that Russia had taken Naftogaz’s assets without permission, breaking an agreement between Ukraine and Russia. A court of appeal in The Hague also agreed with this decision in July 2022.
**Russia Still Challenging the Decision**
Despite losing at the Supreme Court, Russia is still trying to appeal this decision. But with each new loss, it becomes less likely that they will succeed.
Meanwhile, Naftogaz has asked a court in Finland to freeze some Russian assets there until further notice. This is part of their efforts to get the money they are owed.
