Georgian Official Reacts to Estonia’s Sanctions Decision
Givi Mikanadze, a member of the Georgian parliament and leader of the Parliamentary Committee on Education, Science, and Youth Affairs, has spoken out against Estonia’s decision to impose sanctions on 14 Georgian officials. This includes Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.
Mikanadze called the move “disgraceful” and said it showed that Estonia was interfering in Georgia’s internal affairs. He also stated that the sanctions were a disregard for the will of the people, who voted for the current government. The Georgian Dream party received over 1 million votes in the last election.
Mikanadze’s comments came after Estonia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Margus Tsahkna, announced the sanctions. Tsahkna stated that the violence perpetrated by the authorities against demonstrators and opposition leaders was “criminal” and violated human rights. He urged other EU countries to take action.
