**Ukraine Assembles NATO-Standard Rifles at Home**
The Ukrainian defense company, Ukroboronprom, has started assembling Czech–made rifles in Ukraine. This happened last November, 2024, and is part of the country‘s efforts to become less dependent on foreign arms supplies.
**Local Production Gains Momentum**
Ukroboronprom announced that it had begun licensed assembly of the BREN 2 rifle, a NATO-standard assault rifle. The Czech-made rifle is already used by several countries, including Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Portugal, and Romania.
**Reducing Dependence on Foreign Arms Supplies**
The local production of rifles will help reduce Ukraine’s reliance on foreign arms supplies, making it more resilient against ongoing Russian aggression. This move is part of a broader effort to develop its own defense industry.
