US Ready to Impose New Sanctions on Georgia
The US is preparing a new package of sanctions against Georgia. This was announced by the State Department’s Matthew Miller.
Miller said that he cannot say more about these sanctions today, but they will be published soon. He expressed concern about the state of democracy in Georgia and the actions of the ruling party “Georgian Dream“.
Last Friday, the US imposed 20 new visa restrictions on individuals linked to the government who are undermining democracy in the country. Miller said that there will be more actions taken by the US against these individuals.
He explained that imposing sanctions takes time and must follow the law. The new package of sanctions is being prepared and will be released in the coming weeks, according to Miller.
